Sakuma Drops

Sakuma's Moomin Candy photo by builtofcornflakes

~GUuuuuhhhhrrrrr.... Japanese product Sakuma Candy is as old as zombies. *snort
OH! sorry, maybe not. But they were around since the meiji period and is made famous by the Anime 'Grave of the fireflies'. But they do not taste like crusty fireflies as I is suspected. Each tin roughly contains 20 pieces of meltilicious boiled hard candy in different fruit flavors. The candies are lightly dusted in sugar powder and they'd give a coat of fruit-punch tasting saliva in your mouth. Unfortunately Malaysians do not have access to Sakuma Candy's savory & alcohol candies as far as i know. Especially for flesh eating zombies like me, ish very sad.

To name a few unavailable flavors in Malaysia that you can use your imaginism on:
Roasted Corn
Taco Rice Flavor
Tokyo Noodles
Gyouza
Sapporo Beer
Sasebo Burger
Sake Drops

Great articles on them if you'd like to read more-

The can itself is a collector's item because they change the design a lot and I am very excited because not everyday you can purchase a movie prop such as this.Guuuhhhrr... I'm still looking for the exact can design as in the movie but can only find these two (pictured above) at Daiso. The can is great for keeping knick knacks when you're done with the candy (but that will take a while since one candy lasts a long time on your tongue. Unless you plan to have a cavity habitat in your mouth, like me) But yes, please do watch Grave of the Fireflies and tell me in my zombie face that that movie doesn't make you want to buy Sakuma drops. Yes. i is a sucker. *coff coff
